people really don't know what they want.....

I blame my mother for my newest addiction; Rightmove.com perving/planning.

You search for properties on rightmove.com in a dream area and then you troll through all the results to find your dream property....

and then I took it a step further...

I discovered that you can buy nearly brand new furniture on eBay..... along with paint supplies, kitchen essentials, bedding.

And now I have basically planned out my entire dream house on a budget (excluding rent) of under £500, which is pretty damn awesome, except that I have no money, I cant afford to move or buy furniture or pay bills and rent.... and therefore I am torturing myself with my dream home.

Which makes me have a sad face =( .

However, at least (and I am honest about this) I am realistic about my dream home, a 1 bed flat would be ideal for me, dont care about a garden or spare bedroom , as long as the kitchen is clean and useable and the toilet and shower both work and the heating and electrics are safe to use. But as I type this I come to the conclusion that there are people who without a doubt are so unrealistic in their dreams and expectations of properties that it is a wonder that they have any financial security.

Take for example 'Escape to the Country' a BBC daytime Tv offering. Couples (usually with more money than sense and the woman always wears the trousers), the demands (a.k.a essential property must-haves) are almost ALWAYS the same:
- LARGE kitchen
- Character
- 4/5 bedrooms - Master must have en-suite (thats a bathroom attached to the bedroom for the non-property minded)
- USUALLY a large garden OR land - between 1-15 acres
- 3 reception rooms

Which is understandable, but what you must now bear in mind is, these couples are normally in their mid-50's (there are some younger couples but hold on, let me finish), semi-retired, grown up children with their own families.

My FIRST point is, who needs 5 bedrooms if there are just the 2 of you?? I can understand 2 or 3, spare for when you have visitors, but 5?!

A large kitchen.... yeh ok, that I can understand, the kitchen is the heart of the home in most families and lets be honest, its harder to cook in a cramped kitchen. I should know, I shared a very small kitchen with 3 other girls who all love cooking.

Character.... WHAT THE HELL IS CHARACTER? This means 100 different things to 100 different people. And I am not being funny but the majority of properties for sale now a days have been painted *shudder* Magnolia to show a blank canvasse for viewers... well thats Bollocks, most people now don't even know what imagination is, let alone have the mindpower to imagine their furniture in the room and colours on the walls.  Besides which, by painting everything Magnolia *vomit*, you remove all traces of personality from something ANYWAY... stupid people. So to say a property has no character to me basically means that not only do you not have an imagination but you also have no personality yourself.

En-suite - Well I am all for convenience if you are older and you struggle to get to the loo down the hall, or if you have a large family and there is only 1 bathroom or if like me, you have issues sharing a bathroom because your brother shaves his beard over the toilet and leaves the hair all over the seat. ALL these reasons I will condone... but if you are in the prime of your life, stop being lazy and walk down the corridor, you dont need an en-suite.

Garden - To be perfectly honest, a garden to me is a luxury, I love my garden at home (well my parents garden - but I grow a lot in it!) its long and narrow but its taken many years to get it to where it is. Its like an extra room, somewhere to entertain, to have BBQ's, to play as a kid, but again, you don't NEED a garden. Thousands of people live in apartments without gardens and are perfectly happy. Besides which, having a garden actually increases the cost of the property depending on how large it is, developed, maturity of the trees and in some cases whether the trees themselves are protected.

So you have all of this in mind when you search for your dream home on 'Escape to the Country', they then show you 2 properties which have the majority or even all of the criteria specified, in the county (not small area- they include the entire county) you want to live in.. The couples umm and ahh for 20 minutes and then comes the coup d'etat, the mystery property *OOOOOOOOH* which has 1 or 2 of the criteria and then EXTRAS... like a pool or stables and a outbuilding with planning permission. Sometimes its nowhere near where you want to live. Usually out of the budget by about £25,000....... BUT and here is the crux..... it is loved, its everything they wanted with NONE of the criteria, they want to live there, immediately, quick make an offer!!!

WHY?! its like brainwashing live!
I would LOVE to live in a 20 bedroom mansion with gold filigree coving and 400 acres of land, a complete equstrian centre with menage and indoor school and cross country course. It would have lifts to every floor, a huge farmhouse kitchen and a living room with a fireplace.
BUT I LIVE IN REALITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHY CAN'T THESE PEOPLE??????

The voices and I agree that some people don't know what they want in life and the rich people generally are the worst.

reverse psychology will get you everywhere... if you are Richard Burton

During my enslavement to compulsary schooling, I briefly read The Taming of the Shrew and was made to watch the BBC modernised adaption (which was rather good)... but now I am older and wiser I do actually understand the storyline a lot better..... and to be perfectly honest... Shakespeare was a sexist arse.

Please don't mistake me either here, I am aware that women basically had no rights until 100 years ago... I did study History and I quite enjoy it (I'm an Anne Boleyn nerd), and even though during Shakespeare's career there was a Queen on the throne who made a splendid job of it, women were still seen as chattel.
Katharina (the main female lead) is a rebellious woman who won't marry and Petruchio (the main male lead) is a man up for anything who agrees to marry this woman to get her (basically) off her fathers hands. I will admit I am leaving like 90% of the rest of the storyline out but I dont care... so a LONG story very short, this man bullies this woman into marrying him, he abuses her and makes fun of her and is rude and all things nasty .... until eventually she cracks and becomes besotted and adores him and is essentially his slave.... er, No. I think not.

You dont fall in love with someone for them being cruel and unusual - just so we are clear 50 Shades of Grey kinky crap does not count, I'm talking about being abusive and blatantly aggressive.
But apparently in 16th century Italy, you fally in love.... personally I think its comparable to Stockholm Syndrome (you are kidnapped and you end up sympathising with your captors and basically becoming one of them - it happens much more commonly than is known)

The voices and I agree that reverse psychology only stands true if you are Richard Burton.... or suffering from Stockholm Syndrome
