Day 6:
Guys my apologies for not posting as promised - as my blog mentions I have been away and Ive also been having computer issues. So as a kind of repayment for being lax and techno-destructo I have actually managed to make a video... It took me a while to figure out how to edit it and make it twist round 90 degrees... my stupid phone saved it at right angles -.- I swear it conspires against me! Anyway Here you shall see, via the wonders of technology, how 9 to 5 works on waterproof mascara, every woman I know hates taking it off because it never 100% removes BUT check out the vid to see otherwise!
SOOOOOO I want you guys to comment PLEASE and tell me how I did on the vid because it my first ever posted and uploaded for the public to see. I want honest opinions. Comment box is right at the bottom of the page so scroll allllllllll the way down and leave your mark ;)
Im genuinely chuffed to bits at something this simple. Anyway, back to skin talk - I've been having a few probs since going to Malta I got a wee bit sunburnt and it went all weird and dry and peely HOWEVER this was very quickly sorted with some Charity Pot. Still got a few spots that are popping up but that's just hormonal and should settle in the next week (fingers crossed).
Tune in over the next couple of days as Im going to be waxing lyrical about Tea Tree and I think I shall amaze you all with the powers of ORANGE (in all its forms).
Love to all
*********ON HAITUS*********
As promised todays update comes with bells attached =).
One of the main ingredients in the cleanser 9 to 5 is Almond oil - you'll also find derivatives (things made from the same start ingredient) in a LOT of Lush products, but I'll get to those in a bit.
Almonds come from trees - they are nuts. Their proper name is Prunus dulcis and is pronounced Proo-nus dul-chis (those latin names and funny pronounciations!).
The nuts themselves contain high levels of calcium (bone stuff), phosphorus (good for cell repair and hormone balancing) and potassium (hydration, moisturising AND good for your BP too!) as well as being fairly calorific and containing a vast amount of vitamins A, D and E.
Almond Oil is cold pressed - exactly like how you make olive oil by squeeeeeezing it in a clamp until the juice comes out but minus the warmth, this makes it harder to get oil out BUT the oil is much purer.
As a whole product, Almond oil has a multitude of benefits for the skin alone including ; anti-inflammatory, reduces wrinkles and dark circles, being an emollient (helps absorb via the skin better), moisturising and balancing and it also helps to reduce and mildly reverse damage caused by UV rays.
But on top of all of this, there is more. These reasons are why I think Almond Oil is used in 9 to 5: it dissolves sebum (natural oil your skin produces) that makes you spotty, moisturises and even removes waterproof mascara with ease! Almonds are also quite sweet smelling, they are a key ingredient in making marzipan for cake decorating and they are also sugared to make sugared almonds commonly given out at weddings and celebrations.
You can find Almond Oil and its sister ingredients in these Lush products:
Ultrabland -Oil
You've Been Mangoed -Oil
Love Lettuce -Oil
Hair Doctor -Oil
Quietly Motivated & Wise -Oil
Charity Pot -Oil
Soft Coeur -Oil
Karma Kream -Oil
Ro's Argan -Oil
Happy Happy Joy Joy -Milk
Celestial -Milk
Aqua Mirabilis -Butter
Space Girl -Essential Oil bitter almond)
And those are not ALL of the products with Almond in them, there are LOADS more.
So, I hope to find you all overflowing with facts and knowledge about Almond Oil and its properties.
Heres todays picture:
As you can see, skin looking pretty mattified which is great because I hate shiny skin. Not too bad at the minute, I still look a bit panda-ish but miles better than yesterday. my right cheek still has a bit of a dark patch where the bloomer was but that's rapidly disappearing. All in all Im rather pleased and its only day 5 of 30...
The next knowledge outburst day is going to be all about TEA TREE.
Hope to see you guys log in for days 6,7 and 8 - Ill try and upload a short vid showing how well 9 to 5 removes my hardcore makeup - waterproof mascara, very dark eyeshadow, skin supplement and lipstick - not hardcore as in tattooed on, that would be insanely awesome but impossible.
Night all
Day 3 & 4
Hello my lovelies, days 3 and 4 are lumped together as I am being lazy. Day 5 (a.k.a tomorrow) will be my first ingredient knowledge outburst featuring 9 to 5 ingredient ALMOND OIL!
Back to topic, days 3 and 4. To be honest, my cheeks feel amazingly soft and clean for a change. Not oily at all even after 12 hours in full makeup and not spotty.
The large 'bloomer' on my cheek has nearly gone after just 3 days of treatment with Grease Lightning which is incredible in comparison to a normal everyday spot treatment. But not only has it healed - the redness is gone, there is no lump/bump or scab and the area is also quite normal feeling (i.e. its not dry and scaly and there's no dead skin).
Also I don't seem to have any other spots developing which is always a happy circumstance and any one else would agree =).
In the day 4 pic, I will admit I look terrible. Couple of reasons really, I had to cut all my nails short and when I do that I tend to play with my face and pick at little lumps (even if they aren't really lumps)... its a really bad bad bad habit and I put my hands up and say its my own fault! Other thing on this is pic that I vaguely resemble a panda with big ol' bruises under my eyes - I don't sleep well and haven't for the last couple nights so I will prob look like a pretty panda for another night or so, but feel free to ignore that, I do! testing out Enchanted Eyecream is on my TO-DO list.
So heres the piccys:
Day 3 --> sexy in speccys
Day 4 - Bit red, irritated and Panda-fied
There you go, im just over 1/10th of the way through my test period and I already see a difference hope you guys can too.
Hope everyone stays cool and safe and well and enjoy the warm-ish weather this weekend.... Im being relegated to the greenhouse to pot seeds and ruin my nails XD
TUNE IN FOR THE INGREDIENT KNOWLEDGE OUTBURST TOMORROW!
Day 2
Just a update for today, I shall be bombarding you with some stunning info later in this week so stay tuned.
Oh and just a bit of other advertising - not that its needed really, but I have now discovered a new skin supplement by Lush in their Emotional Brilliance range. Its similar to a foundation - apply with a brush and spread evenly. I use Light Pink all over and if you compare both of these pictures, it sits really well on my face and leaves it semi-matt.
Anyway, here are todays pics:
Before 9 to 5 - with makeup on
After 9 to 5 - make up removed
And before anyone comments - YES I know I have an egghead!
More to the point, my face isn't horrendous, but I do have a rather large 'bloomer' on my right cheek just under my eye - I treated it straight off with G.L. - and my nose is a tad red since I managed to bash my face with my hand with all my rings on.
Skin isn't too bad, nice and smooth apart from the bloomer, few small breakouts on my chin but those were there at the start and are pretty much healed.
Tune in for Days 3 to 7 where I am going to tell you all about some of the individual ingredients in each of the products and some of their uses and maybe I'll throw in some cocktail ideas too ;)

First Feature Ever! : 30 Days and NightsDay 1
Since starting to work for Lush, I have been subject to their fabulous staff discount in order to encourage me to try out and test the products myself so that when I talk to customers I can give accurate information and personal experience with products.
In order to do that, I have decided to test out a group of products on myself and post all the results day - by - day on here and on my Instagram - http://instagram.com/samheffernan18 over a 30 day period.
I have skin that's pretty naff - spotty, greasy, red and often quite itchy. Pretty generally crappy but then again, I have never really taken much notice of it since I tend to cover it in makeup anyway =) . Working for Lush has introduced me to the practice of CLEANSE, TONE and MOISTURISE but because I do have quite frequent breakouts - due to not taking care of my face - I am slightly editing this to include TARGET.
SO... PRODUCTS!!!
The 4 products I am using are :
9 to 5 ---> CLEANSE
Tea Tree Toner ---> TONE
Grease Lightning ---> TARGET
Vanishing Cream ---> MOISTURISE
Heres the Day 1 picture - please forgive the bad lighting level and the laughable hair under a headband XD having a fringe makes sorting my face rather hard.
All done in this pic.
9 to 5 was really nice to put on and took my makeup off amazingly well. It felt creamy and you don't need a lot either, just a dab on some cotton wool and its clean off. I wont show you that evidence because to be quite frank it was a bit gross!
Tea Tree Toner, well even in late winter, I can foresee this being a definite MUST come hot weather (hopefully) in summer. Its fabulously cooling and pleasant to smell along with giving a slight matt effect to your skin when it dries, naturally or wiped off.
Next came the Grease Lightning. To be honest, I've been using this for quite a while, around 6 months or so, and over that long period I have noticed a few things. Whilst it does get rid of the redness and swelling around spots (and ingrown hairs - as tested on my brothers beardie) it has a tendency to dry a little clumpy and then crack if you move your face - similar to a face mask. Nothing serious, it dries clear so you can't see G.L. its just the sensation of cracking - maybe I am just odd in getting that feeling.
Finally its Vanishing Cream. Love it... quite simply love it. Its creamy but very light, great for peeps who HATE heavy moisturisers - and being a novice moisturiser myself, its also a good product to start with. It contains loads of Lavender (which I am, honest to God, addicted to) and Honey. So not only moisturises your skin but also helps heal it as well since honey is also an antiseptic =).
So that's all for now, but I'm going to give you guys some more info as this goes on, can't overload you all now or Ill have nothing to say later on!
